Sensei Elodia Flores
Sensei
Elodia P. Flores is a Yon Dan in the Okinawa Kenpo Karate
Kobudo Association. She is under Taketo Nakamura Chomo
Grand Master of the Okinawa Kenpo Karate Kobudo Association.
She started karate in Okinawa with Sensei Odo 1976-1981.
She lived on top of Sensei Odo’s dojo with her husband
Nick and her two sons Gonzalo and Juan. She has a dojo
in George West Texas. She teaches kids under nine years
of age and all females. She is the senior Sensei and Director
of, The All Women Okinawa Kenpo Karate Kobudo Association.
Susi Shmitt is her Assistant Director.
While
training in Okinawa she used to Bogu Kumite with Marines
and did knock out a few, she also got knocked out herself,
“Win a few, loose a few, but never quit.”
She
strikes the machi wara 100 times each morning and does
her kata and yoga. She is a very private person and does
not like publicity. She teaches The Old Way, maybe one
kata every two or three years. She teaches as she was
taught by Sensei Shigeru Odo, Maehara, Hanzen, Hideyko,
and Gushiken Tokobu without any change to their teaching.
She also had a private Sensei, Nakamoto. He used to practice
with Choki Motobu.
She
gave a seminar to her son’s Dojo in Portland Oregon
only because he is her son.
She
is like the old Sensei’s of Okinawa where they did
not go around giving seminars for their ego and money,
but stayed in their dojo’s doing kata. If somebody
wanted to learn they go to the Sensei. The Sensei does
not go to them.
She
got introduced to karate December 1965 when her husband,
then her boyfriend, came back from Viet Nam. She got married
to Nick Flores 12/9/1967 and started going to the Dojo
of the gym of where-ever her husband was teaching. She
considers her real training only in Okinawa starting in
1976.
